This article aims to make a critical analysis on Robert D. Putnam's systematic empirical study regarding social capital and ethnic diversity in American society from 1960 to 2000 in light of the prevalent pluralism anxiety in America. Then the author would like to reassess the basic contents of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen's Concept of Ethnic Harmonization from the perspectives of social science. By doing so, this article tries to explore the policy implications of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen's Concept of Ethnic Harmonization in order to transcend the trap of pluralism anxiety and to strike the balance between ethnic diversity and national integration. Finally, the author will make some concluding remarks.
